恭賀新年 - Happy New Year!

2020 was quite some year, wasn’t it? No travel, few visits to bars, and crazy sums made and lost. Yet, I might just have drank the most in multiple years - this website responsible for a lot of that!

As the new years celebrations are winding down and people are slowly coming back to reality, I believe now will be a good as time as any to discuss some of the things I have planned for the project.

壹 - 渡航歴

The first and foremost priority on my end is to travel! Not just because of tax-free purposes, but to solidify a lot of the planning I have for later, as well as driving some other ambitions when it comes to whisky investing. Currently, it looks like it might be difficult to do so to the extent that I am hoping, but let’s see how vaccines roll out.

One benefit of the uncertainty is that if I cannot travel, it allows me to buy more whisky and add to the collection!

貳 - 運転資本

By writing the Japanese for working capital above, I mean myriad things.

  • One would be the ambition to make use of my whisky collection to earn money in some way. I hope to do this through the Cellar Reserve Programs - both the normal and the reverse ones.

  • Another is the ambition to get going with other revenue streams related to whisky - gift giving advisory, event management, arranging private showings, etc.

  • Perhaps most relevant - setting up a formal company for all of this.

The first kanji in the word above (after the daiji number) indicates luck, fate, progress, advancement, destiny; the second kanji indicates the spoke of a wheel - revolving, turning around, changing. Effectively, I’m writing this as a reminder to use capital to revolve and turn around my lot.

Feel free to hit the “contact” button if any of the bullet points above sound interesting for you!

參 - 株式投機

As for what I am investing in, there are three particular items I am specifically looking forwards to:

  1. Getting a “stable” shelf of higher-end, standard bottlings. This will include your normal bottles and highly sought-after brands. Multieple bottles are being looked at during Q1 for this, and I will write up what I think about these. They would all be core portfolio holdings, of course. I’m currently reserving about US$25k for this particular growth of my portfolio.

  2. Mystery Project - I have a mystery project that I am undertaking right now, both from a capital perspective as well as a planning perspective. Notifications will go out in due time, but this would be a real capstone and something I would hope to get cleared during Q2 or early Q3. This would likely fall somewhere in the US$10-20k range of costs.

  3. Finding new gems and building out the venture portfolio. This would be a lot more driven towards Q4, assuming that travel will pick up again and enabling me to go find gems in Japan and Taiwan. I will be opportunistic when it comes to how much this can cost, and look towards being agile on this.

肆 - 奉献

I need to be more consistent on publishing, and dedicating time and effort to this. My goal here would be 50 posts within the records section, and populating 4 more sections of the website. But who knows. This will require quite a bit of planning, coordination, and effort. Not unlike whisky itself.
